To Roof Over

I was studying the other day from I Cor.13 about Pauls description of love. In verse 7 Paul records that love, “Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” The word beareth is defined by Mr.Strong in his dictionary as: “to roof over, i.e. (fig.) to cover with silence (endure patiently)”. Thus we are to sometimes put a roof on our temper, our tongue, our actions; by keeping silence. We sometimes call it, “put a lid on it” in certain situations. Love indeed will put a lid on it, or “to roof over” in some given situations. It may be that when there is immaturity in a brother or sister, in their actions or words, the we need to forbear, and “to roof over” with our lips. Waiting for an opportune time to help the immature in their shortcomings. It could be, when folks are making fun, saying bad things about us, we must seek “to roof over” our temper and our lips, by being silent, suffering wrongfully. “For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.” I Pet.2:19-20. Sometimes we need to bear patiently the “quirks” that other may have. No doubt there may be “quirks” we have, that other are bearing up under, and never say a word about it, even though it annoys them to no end. My brother-in-law for several years showed forbearance about my eating ice at the end of a meal. I didnt know about it for years after Kathy and got married, he did a good job, “to roof over” the situation, for he never said anything about it. Yes, as Paul said, Love “Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” Think how the principle will apply in your life.
